Gemini Notebook has a Studio panel that can generate audio overviews, reports, slides, and other artifacts. The quality of what you get depends almost entirely on the quality of the prompt you give it.
Writing a good Studio prompt is not hard — but it takes thought. You need to describe your goal, specify the format, reference your sources, and set the right context. Most people either skip this step or write something generic and get generic results.
Studio Recipes in Notebook OS does this for you. It reads your notebook context, writes a tailored prompt, and triggers Gemini Notebook's artifact generator — all in one click.
The 9 Recipe Types
Notebook OS includes recipes for 9 artifact types: Audio Overview, Research Report, Slide Deck, Video Script, Mind Map, Flashcard Set, Quiz, Infographic brief, and Data Table. Each recipe is optimized for its format.
An Audio Overview recipe writes a prompt designed for the conversational, narrative style Gemini Notebook's audio generation works best with. A Research Report recipe writes a structured academic-style prompt with appropriate section headings. A Flashcard recipe extracts key concepts and definitions.
What Happens When You Run a Recipe
- You select a recipe type from the Notebook OS panel
- Notebook OS reads your current notebook's sources and recent chat context
- It generates a detailed, source-aware prompt based on the recipe template
- The prompt is sent to Gemini Notebook's Studio panel
- Gemini Notebook generates the artifact
The generated prompt is not generic. It references your actual sources, reflects your notebook's topic, and uses the recipe's output format requirements. This is why Studio Recipes outputs are significantly better than what you get from a generic "summarize my sources" prompt.
Review Before Generate
If you want more control, use Review Before Generate mode. Instead of sending the prompt automatically, Notebook OS shows you the generated prompt first. You can edit it, add specifics, adjust the tone, or change the focus before hitting generate.
This is especially useful when you have a specific angle in mind — a particular thesis, a specific audience, a language requirement. Review mode lets you keep the time savings of recipe generation while still applying your own judgment.
Custom Recipes
The built-in recipes cover common workflows. But your workflow may not be common. If you regularly generate a specific type of output — a competitive analysis, a patient briefing document, a client-facing summary — you can save a custom recipe with your preferred structure, tone, and prompt patterns.
Free users can save up to 3 custom recipes. Pro users get unlimited custom recipes.
Output Languages
Studio Recipes includes a language selector for each artifact type. Choose from 50+ languages and the generated prompt will instruct Gemini Notebook to produce the artifact in your chosen language. This is useful for multilingual research workflows or when you need to produce outputs for different audiences.
